Custom Foot Orthotics

Injury prevention for Ballet dancers takes place outside the dance studio. At all times, a ballet dancer should be in a supportive, stable shoe, especially those with flat feet. In addition to wearing stable shoes, an orthotic can provide additional support to relieve stress at the arch and the ball of the foot.

Orthotics are medical devices that are inserted into shoes and are designed to support the foot to improve the biomechanical function of the foot, leg, and back while standing, walking or running. Custom foot orthotics are tailor made to treat a patient’s foot and can help support and correct foot conditions such as overpronation, oversupination, and limb length discrepancy, amongst a variety of conditions.

To be fitted for custom orthotics Ballet Podiatry will conduct a biomechanical assessment, take a 3-D digital scan of the patient’s foot, and write an orthotic prescription specific to the patient’s condition. The scan will be sent to the laboratory and the orthotics will be handcrafted using the highest quality materials. We also have a Grow Program for dancer’s under 18 years of age.

Pre-Fabricated Orthotics

At times a patient will need orthotics to support general foot pain such as arch pain (plantar fasciitis), bunion pain, ball of foot pain, ankle instability and other specific foot, lower leg, knee, or back pain. Pre-fabricated or “off the shelf” orthotics may be suitable to relieve the pain and support the foot.

Ballet Podiatry provides medical grade pre-fabricated orthotics that recommended by the American Podiatric Medical Association to support the foot in every stage of gait.
